About the Department

It is a department specialized in securing the needs of all university libraries from sources of information on the method of purchase, gift, legal deposit, or Exchange according to systematic plans that include identifying the needs of the beneficiaries and setting provisioning procedures, taking into account the size of the library and the community of beneficiaries in a changing and renewable environment.

Department Tasks

  • Providing appropriate selection tools for the needs of libraries, such as lists of publishers, distributors, and others.
  • Preparing records for the various activities of the department, such as purchase and gift records, supplier records, and correspondence records Financial records, etc.
  • Contributing to the process of selecting sources of information in close cooperation with the responsible selection committee and providing bibliographic data Complete all sources.
  • Receiving requests for selecting sources of information from different authorities and reviewing them with the library indexes.
  • Receiving the sources of information received with their invoices and ensuring the integrity of these sources and their conformity with what is required, and ensuring that they are in conformity with the requirements Prices are as agreed.
  • Reviewing and approving the bills for disbursement and transferring them to the financial department and keeping copies of these bills.
  • Recording the sources of information contained in the department's records and putting the seals on the library's ownership thereof.
  • Transferring information sources to the indexing and classification section.
  • Supervising the processes of evaluating collections in libraries, purifying and weeding them to exclude damaged ones.
  • Distribution of the supply budget according to the needs of the libraries.
  • Contribute to the process of selecting electronic periodicals and databases to participate in.
  • Receipt of donations from different parties, reviewing them and their validity for use or not.

About the Department

• The department started as a binding unit until it was upgraded to a section during the year 2016. It aims to preserve the library’s paper holdings of references, books and research, and covers the sections’ need for paper publications, cards, forms, and similar needs.

Department Tasks

  • Binding library books at the university and supervising and following up on the conditions of books inside the libraries.
  • Binding for the faculties and departments of the university (exam results, departmental reports, budgets, accounts edges...etc).
  • Copying and binding some rare books.
  • Bringing and providing binding supplies and materials that require knowledge of the nature of materials in terms of specifications, validity and storage.
  • Printing, binding and photocopying diploma and bachelor's research papers and postgraduate theses for the University of Sudan and for other universities.
  • Assisting in the training of students of specialization in the field of binding.
  • Spreading the culture of proper dealing with writers inside and outside the library through periodicals and other media.
